FE REPORT | May 27, 2021 00:00:00

The Ministry of Education has further extended the ongoing closure of secondary and higher secondary educational institutes until June 12 amid the coronavirus infections in the country.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni made the  disclosure at a virtual media briefing on Wednesday noon adding that the ministry has prepared all to reopen campuses and will provide in-person teaching shortly if the situation improves significantly.

The minister, however, was hopeful and said all secondary and higher secondary level educational institutes would be opened after June 12.

The educational institutions were scheduled to be reopened on May 29 in line with the previous government decision amid ongoing Covid restrictions.

About 40 million primary and secondary students have been facing difficulties as in person classes got suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic while online and TV classes are allegedly not helping them.

The educational institutions have been suspended since March last year, however, the education ministry has since been conducting online education programmes.

The education minister also said the SSC and HSC examinations of 2021 and 2022 will be held in short syllabi.

Dipu Moni said that in 2021, SSC candidates will attend 60 days of classes and then will sit for examination while HSC candidates will sit for the exam after 84 days of classes. The 2022 SSC candidates will get classes for 150 days and HSC candidates for 180 days respectively.

Earlier, the government had announced to open schools and colleges from May 23 and universities from May 24, however, it revised its decision and further extended closure amid the pandemic situation in the country.
