A court in the city issued Sunday a warrant for the search of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan political office in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act, report agencies.

Metropolitan Magistrate SM Masud came up with the search warrant following a petition moved by the investigation officer of the case filed with the Gulshan Police Station in the city, said Sanaullah Miah, a counsel for the BNP chief.

He said the case was filed against 14 people, including Khaleda Zia, on February 25.

Sanaullah also said an executive magistrate usually issues such order. "The CMM court has no authority to issue the search warrant."

The police asked for the warrant in the explosives case filed over the bombing of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan's procession in Gulshan on February 16.

The issuance of the warrant was kept under wraps.
