Separation of judiciary a great challenge: CJ

October 18, 2007 00:00:00

Chief Justice (CJ) M Ruhul Amin Wednesday said current favourable atmosphere has made it possible to separate the judiciary from the executive control, reports UNB.
Addressing a special orientation programme for the Additinal District Judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in the city, he said the question of separation of the judiciary was a great challenge which must be overcome through united endeavours.
The CJ said the Supreme Court (SC) had been making efforts for a long time to get it materialised. But if there was no favourable situation it would not have been possible to separate the judiciary from the executive.
He said by introducing the judicial magistracy at subordinate courts, "We will be able to prove our capability of fulfilling the great expectation of the people."
Justice Amin urged all concerned to work jointly to materialise the independence of the judiciary.
The burning issue of separation of the judiciary from the executive will come in to effect on November 1 on the basis of the SC edicts given in 1999 in the landmark judgement on Masdar Hossain case.
