Seven flyovers open to traffic on HSIA-Gazipur route

Seven flyovers between the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and Gazipur were formally opened to traffic on Sunday ahead of Eid, taking into account the comfortable journey of the homebound people.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader attended the inauguration function virtually from his ministry conference room on Sunday.

However, except Bogura and Gazipur Chourasta flyovers, traffic on other flyovers have been allowed for a couple of months.

All these flyovers are in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor being developed from the HSIA to Gazipur at a cost of Tk 42.68 billion.

Of these, two separate flyovers near the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport measure 323 metres long each. Jasimuddin flyover is 180m long, Uturn Gazipur flyover and Uturn Open University flyover are 165m each, Bogura flyover 240m and Gazipur Chourasta flyover 568m.

Under the BRT corridor development work titled Greater Dhaka Sustainable Urban Transport project, 4.5km elevated road and eight flyovers have been developed along the 20.5km corridor.

Among others, Bridge Secretary Mohammad Monjur Hossain, Roads and Highways Department Chief Engineer Syed Moinul Hasan, Dhaka BRT Company Managing Director Dr M Muniruzzaman and Project Director ASM Ilias Shah were present.
