FE Report
Shops, shopping malls, markets and business establishments will, from now on, remain open until 8:0pm across the country.
The interim government has extended the closing time limit for the shops, markets and business houses by one hour, aiming to accelerate the country's economic activities.
The Council of Advisers at its weekly meeting Saturday with the Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair took the decision in response to an appeal by the Dhaka City Shop Owners Association.
Besides, the council also considered the long daytime, end of irrigation season and slight improvement in power generation while extending the shopping time limit, an official handout said.
The caretaker government cut short the business hours to 7:0 pm to save electricity from February 25 last in consultation with the shop owners' association.
However, the shop owners have kept on urging the government for extending the closing time lime until 8:0pm in the greater interest of their business activities.
The Adviser in charge of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Tapan Chowdhury at a recent meeting also assured the shop owners of extending the shopping timing by one hour.
At the meeting, the shop owners made an assurance to the government that they would help save electricity by taking necessary steps, including the use of energy-saving bulbs, the handout mentioned.
