Six children died from measles and measles-related symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours as of 8:00am on Sunday, pushing the total death toll to 459, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest fatalities, one child died from confirmed measles, while five others died with symptoms consistent with the disease, the health authority said in a bulletin.
With the new figures, the number of confirmed measles deaths has reached 75, while 384 people have died with measles-related symptoms.
Region-wise, the confirmed death was reported in Barishal division. Among the suspected cases, three children died in Dhaka, one in Sylhet and one in Mymensingh.
As the outbreak continues to spread, 243 new confirmed infections were recorded in the 24-hour period, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 7,767.
During the same period, symptoms of measles were detected in 1,274 children, raising the total number of suspected infections to 57,846.
Some 0.172 million children in the country have received the measles-rubella vaccine as of May 10.
Meanwhile, 96 per cent of the target to vaccinate 18 million children has been achieved under
the ongoing nationwide immunisation drive
aimed at controlling the outbreak.
