Aggregate tax revenue collection experienced a sluggish growth below 10 per cent until April of the current fiscal year (FY) due to prevailing poor investment scenario.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) collected Tk 907.04 billion revenue in July-April period achieving 9.16 per cent growth over the corresponding period.
The Board will have to collect additional Tk 343 billion in the next two months to meet the target of Tk 1.25 trillion for the current FY.
To achieve the target, the NBR will have to achieve 15 per cent growth in tax revenue collection over the corresponding period.
However, some NBR officials said despite slow growth, they are hopeful of achieving the target in the current FY as tax collection usually gathers momentum in the last quarter (April-June) of every year.

Officials said slow growth of import of products affected the Customs revenue collection in FY 2013-14. Import posted 10.64 per cent year-on-year growth.
Target for income tax collection has been set at Tk 443.60 billion followed by VAT at Tk 468.50 billion and Customs duty at Tk 328.70 billion for FY 2013-14.
