Spl project taken for reviving Halda fish breeding round

A special project has been taken for revival of the endangered natural breeding ground of fishes in the Halda river in Chittagong, which was once famous as Asia's largest fish sanctuary, reports UNB.

Under the multifaceted plan for rebuilding the sanctuary of marine resources, the Halda would be elevated to a "world heritage" site, an official announcement said Wednesday.

The decision was taken in an inter-ministerial review meeting on the revival of the fish-breeding ground, held at Fisheries and Livestock Ministry with its Adviser CS Karim in the chair.

Under this project, various steps would be taken to bring back the glory of the Halda river. The works to be done include setting up seasonal and annual sanctuaries in special areas of the river and dredging
