Sporadic violence marks hartal, blockade

The countrywide indefinite transport blockade, being enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, entered the 17th day on Wednesday alongside a 48-hour hartal in Dhaka and Khulna divisions, called by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from 6am on the day.
In the capital, miscreants set fire to a bus at Kalyanpur at around 7:45 am. Pickets set off two crude bombs in front of Holland Centre Shopping Complex at Badda at 7:30am. Miscreants torched a bus of Jagannath University teachers on the campus at around 11am.
The BNP-Jamaat activists brought out demonstrations and were locked in clashes sporadically across the city on Wednesday.
Twenty-six vehicles were torched and vandalised in Mymensingh, Laxmipur, Sylhet, Bogra, Comilla and Savar of Dhaka from Tuesday night until the time of filing this report on Wednesday evening.  
Meanwhile, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said while replying to a question of a journalist some 7,015 people were arrested across the country during the last 15 days.
The Industries Minister announced a Tk 1,00,000 bounty if anyone can help arrest anarchists carrying out arson attacks and subversive acts during the transport blockade.
Besides, order has been issued to make the law and order committees at district and upazila levels more active to contain violence and tackle the prevailing situation.
On the other hand, the BNP on Wednesday alleged that ruling Awami League government has given the law enforcers a free hand for committing crimes against humanity like secret killings and enforced disappearances in a bid to suppress its movement.
In a statement, he also alleged that the government is conducting a false campaign through the media to shift the blame of subversive acts onto the opposition after carrying out those with its own agents in a planned way.
Earlier on Tuesday, according to different media reports, four people, including a woman, received burn injuries as miscreants hurled a Molotov cocktail at a bus in Rajshahi city while two others were burned in Goainghat upazila of Sylhet as pickets set fire to a sand-laden truck by hurling a petrol bomb.
In Dhaka, police detained five suspected Islami Chhatra Shibir members with 130 hand bombs from a residence in the capital's TV Gate area in Mohakhali.
In Gazipur, a private car was set ablaze by pickets in Harinal area in the morning. Being informed, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.
In Narayanganj, police arrested Narayanganj city unit BNP general secretary ATM Kamal from Hajiganj M Circus area in the city in the morning.
In Khulna, activists of the 20-pary combine brought out a procession from PTI intersection in the city.
A cocktail was blasted at Hakim Chattar near the Teachers and Students Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University at 7:0pm Wednesday, leaving a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Ghulam Baki among three others injured.
After the incident, the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment, according to private TV channels and online news portals.
