The government has decided to hold the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in January and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in June from 2027 to reduce session jams and better align the academic calendar with university admission schedules.
Under the revised schedule, the SSC examinations in 2027 will begin on January 7 and conclude on February 6, ahead of Ramadan, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said at a press conference at the Ministry of Education on Thursday.
He said the HSC examinations would begin on June 6 and continue until July 13, 2027.
However, this year's SSC examinations are currently under way, while the HSC examinations are scheduled to begin on July 2.
The government expects the revised timeline to help students receive examination results in time for admission to universities' fall semesters and minimise delays in academic progression, the minister said.
"Nearly two academic years are lost because of the long gap surrounding SSC and HSC examinations," he said, adding that the government is focusing on reducing session jams and making proper use of the country's demographic dividend.
The education minister also said it currently takes around two months to publish public examination results after completion of the exams, but the government aims to shorten the timeframe.
