Law and Information Adviser Mainul Hosein defending imposition of curfew in all divisional headquarters has said the step is taken to protect the life and property of the people, reports UNB.
"The situation is no longer limited to the campuses," he told a private TV channel immediately after the meeting of the Advisory Council Wednesday that decided to impose curfew from 8:00 pm for an indefinite period.
"Other types of people have now been involved in the agitation began on the Dhaka University campus. The meeting was informed by the law enforcing agencies that huge money has been pumped for escalating the situation."
"It's a political game. They want to create a situation. The students were being utilised as pawn in the game," he added.
He said the meeting of Council of Advisers unanimously took the decision of curfew after reviewing the developments.
Mainul said there was no alternative to impose curfew in facing up the situation. The government has obligation to protect the life and property of the people, maintain law and order, peace and stability.
Terming the situation a grave, the Adviser said it (curfew) was not a happy decision.
