Suhrawardy Hospital, IPH directors made OSDs

The health ministry has made Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital director Professor Dr Uttam Kumar Barua and Institute of Public Health (IPH) director Dr Md Abdur Rahim officers on special duty (OSD).
The health ministry issued a circular to this effect on Tuesday.
Suhrawardy Hospital deputy director Dr KM Mamun Morshed has been appointed as the acting director of the hospital till any appointment of a regular director.
On the other hand, earlier OSD Doctor Tanvir Ahmed Chowdhury has been made the new IPH director.
Earlier, the health ministry filed departmental cases against Dr Uttam Kumar and two others on October 29 after finding proof of financial irregularities amounting over Tk 64 million by a probe committee.
The other defendants are --- the members of the market rate verification committee Associate Professor of the neurosurgery department Dr Soumitra Sarker and Nephrology Department head Dr Ratan Das Gupta.
Health services division secretary Abdul Mannan filed the cases.
It was mentioned in the charge-sheet that the allegations of financial irregularities against the three have been proved which is a violation of the government servants (conduct) rules 1979 and public services rules and code of conduct of public servants 2018.
Moreover, showcause notices were also served on the three to explain why they should not be punished within 10 working days.
In another incident, Dr Abdur Rahim was criticised heavily after issuing an office circular asking the Muslim staffs at IPH to maintain specific dress code in the office -- Muslim male employees to wear clothes above the ankle and female employees to wear hijab and clothes that go below the ankle in length. The notice also asked the employees to keep their phones on silent mode during office time.
