Bangladesh's left-handed openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes have scored a world record second innings opening stand against Pakistan in the final day of the Khulna Test.
The openers scored 312 runs against before Imrul fell at his personal 150 at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.
Tamim (unbeaten on 157) and Imrul have thus bettered the previous highest second innings opening stand in Test history, 290, set in 1960 by English openers Colin Cowdrey and Geoff Pullar against South Africa.
Tamim and Imrul have bettered their own record of the best opening stand by a Bangladesh pair -- 224 was their previous best against Zimbabwe in November last year.
The highest opening stand in the first innings of a Test was scored by South Africa's Neil Mckenzie and Graeme Smith, who scored 415 against Bangladesh in Chittagong in 2008.
They bettered the 413 previously scored by India's Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy against New Zealand.
On Friday, Tamim and Imrul had taken Bangladesh to 273, squaring the second best opening stand in second innings set by English openers Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick .
They had also scored 273 runs against South Africa in Durban in 2004.
It did not take long for Tamim and Imrul to go past the 55 year old record of Cowdrey and Pullar.
The two southpaws have also now scored the most runs in a Test partnership for Bangladesh.
The previous best Test partnership of 267 runs for Bangladesh was by Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2013.
