Tarique elected BNP's senior vice chairman

In a major development of BNP leadership, Tarique Rahman was made senior vice-chairman with power of acting chairperson in absence of the chairperson, reports UNB.
The proposal of elevating the position of Tarique was made by Gayeshwar Chandra Roy which was unanimously accepted by the councilors at the close door meeting on Tuesday night.
Earlier, the councilors approved the proposal for creating a new post of senior vice chairman in the central executive committee. The senior vice-chairman will be member of the National Standing Committee, the highest policy making body of the party, by virtue of the ex-officio. He will act as acting chairperson of the party in absence of the chairperson.
Coming out of the meeting Shahzada Mia, BNP president of Fairdpur district, told reporters that BNP senior joint secretary general Tarique Rahman, now in London for treatment, has been elected senior Vice-chairman of the party by the councilors.
The councilors also approved a proposal to raise the strength of standing committee from 15 to 19.
