The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has received tax worth Tk 3.1 million (31 lakh) and Tk 18,000 respectively from two sons of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Arafat Rahman Koko and Tarique Zia.
The tax returns were filed in tax zone-6 recently.
The NBR accepted tax return of Tk 3.1 million of Arafat Rahman Koko as he is not facing any legal action for indulging in corruption, but the board is in dilemma whether to accept or reject Tarique Rahman's tax, sources said.
They have paid the tax under the recent opportunity offered by the government to legalise undisclosed income with the payment of 5.0 per cent penalty in addition to normal tax rates, sources added.
The NBR has extended the deadline for such facility from July 31 to September 30 next following requests from different quarters as well as encouraging response from undisclosed money holders.
But, the NBR has been receiving poor response from the undisclosed money holders after time extension.
The board, that received Tk 1.62 billion on July 31 alone, collected only Tk 1.17 billion in the first seven days of the current month.
Until Tuesday, the board received tax worth Tk 4.17 billion against Tk 22. 84 billion undisclosed money from 13055 individuals.
Up to July 31, the NBR received tax worth Tk 3.0 billion (300 crore) from 8559 individuals against Tk 16.23 billion undisclosed money.
