Tax fair to be expanded next year: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said on Monday both size and tenure of tax fairs will be expanded from next year following huge enthusiasm of new taxpayers.  

While visiting the tax fair premises at the city's Officers' Club, the finance minister said the tax fair is playing a significant role to encourage and motivate new taxpayers.

"We will expand area and tenure of tax fair so that people can pay taxes without any hassle," he said while paying a short visit to the fair.

The NBR received Tk 16.40 billion income tax from the tax fair in the last six days. The NBR received 1,22,855 tax returns from the tax fair until Monday.

The week-long tax fair will end today (Tuesday).  

Later, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) arranged an opinion/ discussion meeting with editors and top newsmen of different print and electronic media.

Senior journalists urged the tax authority to ensure friendly environment in the tax offices too like the tax fairs to encourage new taxpayers come under tax net.

They appreciated the arrangement which helped the taxpayers come forward without harassment and hassle.

Kashem Humayun of Dainik Sangbad, Syed Badrul Ahsan of the Daily Observer and Humaira Sharmin of Bonik Barta spoke on the occasion.

NBR chairman Nojibur Rahman chaired the meeting while tax administration and human resource member Abdur Razzaque, income tax policy member Parvez Iqbal and tax commissioner (tax zone-1) Ziauddin Mahmood spoke on the programme.
