A Dhaka court granted ad-interim bail Monday to chairperson of Tazreen Fashions Mahmuda Akter for one month in the case filed in connection with the factory's 2012 devastating fire that killed at least 112 workers.
The bail was granted on condition that she will appear before the court every Sunday, sources in the court said.
After hearing bail petitions, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Ismail Hossain, however, upheld the Sunday's order of sending Tazreen managing director Delwar Hossain to jail, the sources said.
Mr Hossain and his wife Mrs Aktar surrendered before the lower court on Sunday, 40 days after a lower court issued arrest warrants against them.
Hours after their surrender on Sunday last, both of them were sent to jail by the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Tajul Islam.
On December 31, 2013, a lower court issued the arrest warrants against six persons including Tazreen MD and chairperson taking into cognizance the homicide charges pressed by police.
Four other absconding people, against whom the arrest warrants were issued, are: factory manager Abdur Razzak, its quality manager Shahiduzzaman Dulal, production manager Mobarak Hossain Manju and engineer Mahbubul Morshed.
Police pressed the charges on December 22, 2013 against 13 people including the six ones, who were showed fugitives in the charge sheet.
Of the 13 accused persons, only security-in-charge Anisur Rahman was in jail while six others are on bail. They are: manager (admin) Md Dulal Uddin, store-in-charge Hamidul Islam and Md Al Amin, security in-charge Md Al Amin, security guard Md Rana and loader Shamim Mia.
The case was filed in connection with the Tazreen's tragic fire that killed at least 112 workers, most of them are women, and injured many others at the factory in Nishchintapur area in Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka on November 24, 2012.
