Temp drops to season’s low at 7.3C in Tentulia

The temperature has dropped to 7.3 degrees Celsius in Panchagarh's Tentulia, the lowest temperature recorded in Bangladesh this winter. This means the district, located in northern Bangladesh and near the Himalayan foothills, is experiencing a moderate cold wave.
When the minimum temperature drops below 6 degrees Celsius over a significant area it is considered a severe cold wave. A moderate cold wave is when it falls between 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, and a mild cold wave is when it ranges from 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, reports bdnews24.com.
The mercury had stood at 9.5 degrees Celsius in Tentulia at 9am on Thursday.
Meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam said on Friday morning, "The lowest temperature in the country this season was recorded in Tentulia on Friday. There is no possibility of the temperature decreasing further [in Tentulia] for now."
He said, "The night and day temperatures may increase slightly across the country over the next two days. Then the temperature may decrease again."
COLD WAVE IN 10 DISTRICTS
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department says that 10 districts across the country are seeing mild to moderate cold waves.
These districts are Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jashore, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Gopalganj, and Moulvibazar.
The regular BMD bulletin says that the cold wave blowing in these areas may continue for a few more days.
The forecast also says that night temperatures may increase slightly in the Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions while remaining largely unchanged in other parts of the country.
The weather is expected to remain largely dry with temporary partly cloudy skies across the country in the 24 hours from 9am on Friday. There may be light to moderate fog at locations throughout the country from midnight to the morning.
Over the next 24 hours, the day temperature is expected to increase slightly across the country. The highest temperature recorded over the past 24 hours was 28.7 degrees Celsius in Teknaf.
