Three construction workers died as the hanging scaffold they got on for cleaning window glasses of the 15-storey BEL Tower, the corporate headquarters of Beximco Group, fell down with them Sunday morning at Dhanmondi in the city, police said.
The victims were identified as Mithu (22), Shaheen (24) and Ali Ahmed (25).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the New Market Police Station Kamrul Islam told the FE that the wires of the hanging scaffold suddenly snapped off and the three fell on the rooftop of a four-storey building adjacent to the BEL Tower at about 11:00am when they were cleaning the glasses at the 14th floor of the tower.
The OC said the incident might have taken place due to carelessness of the ill-fated workers.
