The government has banned plying of all kinds of three-wheelers on 22 national highways across the country.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges (MoRTB) has published a list of these national highways.
Ministry sources said all CNG auto-rickshaws, auto tempos and non-motorised vehicles can ply regional, district and local roads other than the listed highways.
Earlier on Thursday, the ministry allowed the three-wheelers on the highways to refuel gas and fuel for two hours from 6:00 am to 8:00 am every day as most of the filling stations are located near the highways.
The MoRTB banned plying of all kinds of slow-moving vehicles on the national highways from August 1, despite strong protests by different three-wheeler drivers' and owners' associations across the country.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the list of the 22 highways while exchanging views with a group of reporters in Feni on Friday.
He said from next year, the government will start constructing by-lanes beside the national highways for the movement of slow-moving vehicles.
The minister also reiterated his ministry's decision to continue with the ban to help reduce road accidents and save lives of people.
Plying of three-wheelers has been banned on highways from Kanchpur Bridge in Narayanganj to Chittagong-Ramu via Madanpur, Comilla and Feni, from Kanchpur Bridge to Sylhet bypass via Bhelanagar (Narsingdi), Bhairab-Sarail, Madhabpur, Mirpur and Sherpur; Joydevpur Chourasta-Mymensingh bypass point, Joydevpur Chourasta-Tangail-Jamalpur, from Aminbazar Bridge to Manikganj, Paturia ghat, Khoyerchar ghat, Kashinathpur, Hatikamrul, Bogra bypass, Rangpur bypass, Syedpur bypass, Dashmail (Dinajpur), Thakurgaon, Panchagarh-Banglabandha and Kashinathpur (Pabna) via Pabna bypass, Dasuria-Natore bypass, Rajshahi bypass, Nawabganj, Sonamasjid and Baliadhighi land port.
Other national highways are Doulatdia-Faridpur (Rajbari crossing)-Magura-Jhenidah bypass-Jessore bypass, Khulna city bypass-Mongla, Teghoria crossing (Dhaka)-Mawa-Kewrakandi-Bhanga-Barisal-Patuakhali, Moinamati (Comilla)-Brahmanbaria bypass-Sarail, Madanpur-Bhulta-Mirerbazar, Vogra-Kodda (Dhaka bypass), Elenga-Nolka-Hatikamrul, Bogra-Natore, Rangpur-Borobari-Kurigram, Hatikamrul-Bonpara, Borobari-Lalmonirhat-Burimari, Nabiganj-EPZ-Chandra, Jessore-Magura, Jhenidah-Kushtia-Dashuria, Chachra crossing (Jessore)-Benapole, Bhanga-Faridpur bypass-Rajbari crossing, Bhanga-Bhatiapara-Mollarhat-Fakirhat-Noapara and Bhatiapara-Kalna-Lohagora-Narail-Jessore.
