TIB wants govt to prepare right policy to combat graft

FE Report | June 14, 2015 00:00:00

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Saturday urged the government, civil society members and political leaders to work together to formulate an effective and long-term policy to combat corruption.

The members of the anti-graft watchdog expressed concern over irregularities in the recent Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporation elections, allowing black money in the economy, human trafficking, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

They voiced concern while speaking at the annual meeting held at TIB's Dhanmondi office in city.

Referring to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the ACC and the TIB, the members opined that if the two organisations worked together, it would be possible for them to make the people of all strata aware of corruption.

They demanded that as per its election pledge, the government should publish the wealth statements and regular updates on the statements of the members of parliament, advisers, judges, senior government officials and politicians.

TIB Trustee M Hafiz Uddin Khan who attended the meeting as the chief guest said, "People's expectation from TIB is high…we have to take forward the social movement against corruption by involving the young generation in it."
