CHATTOGRAM, Nov 24 (UNB): Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead defeating West Indies by 64 runs in the first Test which ended in the second session on day three at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Saturday.

This is Bangladesh's third win in their 15 outings against West Indies since December 2002. They lost 10 and drew two.

Bangladesh defended a lead of 203-run, restricting the visitors to 139/10 in 35.2 overs in the second innings where spinner Taijul Islam glittered with six for 33, while skipper Shakib Al Hasan completed his 200th Test wicket with two for 30 in the innings.

For the touring side, there was only notable stance of 63 off 12.4 overs partnership between Sunil Ambris [43 off 62b; x4x] and Jomel Warrican [41 off 55b; 3x3; 1x6] in the 9th stand.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz [2/27] was another successful wicket-taker.

Chasing the victory target of 204 runs, West Indies' batting line-up failed to negotiate the spin attack of Taijul and Shakib, and lost four wickets for 11 runs before lunch.

Taijul conceded no runs in five balls for his two scalps -skipper Kraigg Brathwaite [8] and Roston Chase - trapping both leg before wicket.

Earlier, Bangladesh posted a lead of 203-run, adding another 70 runs to their overnight lead of 133-run lead.

Mahmudullah Riyad top-scored with 31 off 46 balls, including one boundary and one six, and was caught by Shai Hope off-spinner Devendra Bishoo just seven balls before the end of the second innings.

'Apart from sending off Mahmudullah, Bishoo dismissed overnight batsman Mehidy Hasan Miraz [18 off 35b; 3x4] and debutant Nayeem Hasan [5].

Another overnight batsman Mushfiqur Rahim [19 off 39b; 1x4] played 10 balls on the third day to add 8 runs to his previous 11 before being bowled out by Shannon Gabriel at 69/6 in 18.5 overs.

Bangladesh's last man spinner Taijul Islam was caught by Jomel Warrican off Roston Chase on his single digit.

Devendra Bishoo [4/26], Roston Chase [3/18], Jomel Warrican [2/43] and Shannon Gabriel [1/24] were the wicket-takers for the visitors.

Mominul Haque, who hit a century [120] in Bangladesh's first innings, was adjudged man of the match.

The second Test of the series will begin on November 30 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
