Bangladesh sweated it out to defeat Oman by 26 runs in their second match of the T20 World Cup 2021 at Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Muscat on Tuesday.

Mustafizur Rahman (4 wickets) and Shakib Al Hasan (3 wickets) held their nerve to derail the Oman juggernaut.

Chasing a target of 154, Oman were bundled out for 127/9.

This was a must-win game for Group B favourites Bangladesh to stay alive in the tournament as Oman and Scotland are at the top-two spots in the group.

Bangladesh with two points are at the third spot, trailing Oman in the net run rate. Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Player of the Match. Giving his post-match reaction, Shakib said, "Oman played really good cricket but we held our nerve. Experience played a role. Oman were in the game for 15 overs, so credit to them. They are playing with a lot of heart, I wish them best of luck for their future games."

About the next round of the tournament, he said, "We have another game which we have to win and we have to see what happens in the game between Oman and Scotland."

Earlier, Mohammad Naeem hit 64 off 50 deliveries but Bangladesh slipped to 153 all out. Fast bowlers Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Butt took three wickets each to peg back Bangladesh after The Tigers elected to bat first in the second match of the day in Muscat.

Naeem and Shakib Al Hasan, who hit 42 off 29 balls before being run out through a sharp direct throw by Aqib Ilyas, put on a key second-wicket stand of 80 after losing two early wickets.
