Four-day holiday as Thursday also public holiday

FE REPORT | October 09, 2024 00:00:00

The government took special measures for smooth and peaceful celebrations of the Durga Puja by the Hindu community and the Chibor Daan festival by the Buddhist community, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Apurba Jahangir told a press briefing on Tuesday.

He said that the puja holiday was extended by one day and a circular was issued in this regard.

The government took necessary security measures to address concerns of the Hindu community during the Durga Puja, he said. IP cameras would be set up at all Puja Mandaps across the country, he added.

The UNO offices and local police stations would be able to monitor the Puja Mandaps through these cameras, he said. There would be frequent patrols by RAB and police across the country to ensure proper security for the celebrations, he added.

Responding to a question on the price hike of commodities, he said task forces were formed at the district-level to monitor commodity prices and reduce the gap between production level prices and market prices.

The government already gave permission to seven firms for importing 45 million eggs, he mentioned.

Responding to another question, he said that the government had no information about the whereabouts of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Press Secretary to the CA, Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Asad Mazumder were also present in the briefing.
