Tk 5.0m snatched in broad daylight

Armed motorcyclists snatched Tk 5.0 million (50 lakh) of One Bank Ltd Sunday from the city's Jatrabari area in broad daylight when the money was being taken to Narayanganj in a microbus.
Narayanganj Sadar branch Manager Mahbub Alam, who was in the car during the snatching incident, told reporters at Jatrabari police station that five muggers on two motorbikes shot at both the panes of the vehicle to halt them and snatched the bags containing Tk 5.0 million from the back seat of the car on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at around 10:55 am.
After the snatching, muggers speeded away towards Kanchpur Bridge before pedestrians thronged the spot, he said.
Alam said he withdrew the money from Jatrabari branch of One Bank Ltd at around 10:00 am and along with the driver Harun was heading for its Narayanganj branch.
Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari police station Moniruzzaman said the large amount of money was being carried without any security escort.
Police picked up Mahbub Alam and driver Harun-ur-Rashid of the microbus to verify whether they had any connection with the incident.
