FE REPORT | April 22, 2026 00:00:00

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen on Tuesday said Brendan Lynch, assistant US Trade Representative (USTR) for South and Central Asia, would visit Bangladesh soon to improve trade talks.

He said this during a meeting with Commerce Minister Khandker Abdul Muktadir at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

They discussed how to increase trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.

The ambassador said parliament was working smoothly under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, adding this was a good example of democracy. Stronger trade ties would benefit both countries, he also said, showing interest in Bangladesh's new import policy.

The commerce minister said the government was preparing the new import policy with other ministries.

He hoped the draft of the Import Policy Order 2026 would soon be shared with business groups for their opinions.

Both sides agreed to further expand cooperation in trade, investment, and policy.

Commerce Secretary (routine duty) Md Abdur Rahim Khan and US Embassy Political-Economic Counsellor Eric Geelan were also present at the meeting.
