Traffic gridlock worsens at Mawa

July 11, 2010 00:00:00

Traffic gridlock on Kewrakandi-Mawa route became critical, as ferries stopped plying the Hajra channel due to its poor navigability. It is taking more time, as the 10 ferries travel further by about five kilometres using a new channel. Consequently, over 500 vehicles have lined up on both sides of the Mawa-Kewrakandi ferry crossing, as the situation was compounded with a few ferries out-of-order. The crossing is taking longer since the ferries have to run cautiously and slowly.
