Train on trial run from Kolkata reaches Dhaka

A train on trial run, carrying a 31-member Indian official delegation, reached Darshana station in Chuadanga at about 11:15am Sunday to take forward the talks on the long awaited Dhaka-Kolkata train service, reports UNB.
Railway sources said the train left Chhitpur railway station near Shealdah of Kolkata for Bangladesh at 7:30am.
Railway and customs officials, led by M Shahjahan, chief operations superintendent, Rajshahi zone of Bangladesh Railway received the guests from across the border and together inspected the arrangements for immigration and customs checks.
The train, which left for Dhaka at about 11:50am on completion of immigration formalities, reached the capital around 6:30pm.
AE Ahmed, additional secretary of Indian Home Ministry, leads the 31-member Indian delegation. The delegation also includes Adviser of Indian Railway Board, Vivek Saha and its Executive Director (Traffic) RK Tandon.
Senior officials of the delegation are scheduled to meet their Bangladesh counterparts in Dhaka today (Monday) and tomorrow.
A delegation from Bangladesh will go to Kolkata later this month for the final round of talks before opening the regular Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka train service sometime in late August.
Dhaka-Kolkata train service was discontinued during the Indo-Pak war in 1965.
