Train run starts on Cox's Bazar-Dhaka route

At the end of an eager wait, intercity train travels started on Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route on Friday, bringing good news for tourists.

According to the Bangladesh Railway schedule, 'Cox's Bazar Express' started its journey from Cox's Bazar iconic railway station to Dhaka at 12:30pm and ended over eight hours' journey at 9:10pm.

The return train was scheduled to leave Dhaka's Kamalapur station for Cox's Bazar at 10:30pm on the same day, which will reach Cox's Bazar iconic railway station this morning. The train stops at Dhaka Airport and Chattogram rail station only.

The maximum speed limit for passenger trains on the route is 120 kilometers per hour, said BR.

The ticket fare for a Sobhon chair is Tk 695, an AC chair is Tk 1,325, an AC seat is Tk 1,590 and for an AC berth ticket fare is Tk 2,380.

On the other hand, the fare from Chattogram to Cox's Bazar is Tk 205 for Sobhan chair, Tk 386 for Snigdha class, Tk 466 for AC seat and Tk 696 for the AC berth.

Tickets for the inaugural train were sold out in the first two-and-a-half hours after online sales began on November 23 in Dhaka- Cox's Bazar.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Chattogram-Dohazari-Cox's Bazar-Gumshum (CDCG) rail line on November 11.

The construction of the railway project from Chittagong's Dohazari to Cox's Bazar started in June 2018 worth over Tk 18,034 crore establishing nine stations, including an iconic Cox's Bazar station.

Other stations, including Satkania, Lohagara, Chakaria, Dulhazara, Eidgaon, Ramu, Cox's Bazar Sadar and Ukhiya, are not yet ready for stopovers or additional train services.
