Transactions through banking

The rate of transactions through banking channel has almost doubled in recent days demonstrating a positive impact of the ongoing anti-corruption drive by the caretaker government, sources said.

The uptrend in transactions through banking channel by the country's leading corporate and big trading houses has attracted the attention of both the central bank and the national board of revenue (NBR).

The 'same day clearing' unit in the Bangladesh Bank (BB) has been passing a busy time as it is being frequently requested by the corporate and trading houses to clear their financial transactions worth Tk 1.0 million and above, sources added.

The unit used to clear Tk 2.0 billion to Tk 3.0 billion worth daily financial transactions regularly even six-months ago. But now it has to clear such transactions worth more than Tk 5.0 billion every day, BB sources said.

The rising trend in financial transactions in the banking channel has been attributed to the ongoing anti-corruption drive and the drive against white-collar-crimes.
