A condolence meeting at the office of The Financial Express (FE) paid tributes on Monday to late Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain. He was a sponsor-director of the company owning the FE.
A Doa Mahfil was also held. Chairman of the International Publication Limited (IPL) -- the owning company of the FE -- Mahbubur Rahman presided over the meeting.
IPL Managing Director and Ispahani Group Chairman Mirza Behrouze Ispahani, IPL Directors Afroz Rahim, Zakiuddin Ahmed, Ragib Ali, FE Editor Moazzem Hossain, FE Executive Editor Shahiduzzaman Khan, FE Joint Editor Shamsul Haque Zahid and FE Advisory Editor Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury were, among others, attended the meeting.
"The support and encouragement late Mosharraf Hossain had given to the publication of the FE was a great source of inspiration for all of us," the IPL Chairman said.
He supported many social activities and helped people from various sections of the society irrespective of political affiliations, he said.
"He was an incomparable personality," Mr. Mahbubur Rahman added.
Terming late Mosharraf Hossain as a man of great soul, FE Editor Moazzem Hossain recalled his contributions to different sectors including the newspaper, the readymade garment (RMG) industry and overseas employment.
"He was one of those who did fair and genuine business in sending Bangladeshi workers to various destinations," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, FE Executive Editor Shahiduzzaman Khan recalled the personality of late Mosharraf Hossain.
Terming the late businessman as a soft-spoken and well-behaved person, FE Joint Editor Shamsul Haque Zahid prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.
Later, a munajat was offered for the salvation of the departed soul.
Eminent business personality and politician Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain breathed his last on August 18 last at the capital's United Hospital at the age of 74.
He was born on January 22, 1940 in a respectable family of Sonagaji upazila in Feni district and left his imprint on the country's business and political arenas.
He was chairman of the country's leading manpower export agency Bay Eastern Ltd and former president of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA).
He was also the president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and made a significant contribution for flourishing the apparel industry.
He was for the first time elected a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1996. Later, he was elected MP for two consecutive terms in 2001 and 2008. He was also a member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council before his last breath.
As a veteran social worker, Mosharraf Hossain was always associated with the people of Greater Noakhali whom he served by all possible means.
