The 52nd day of countrywide indefinite transport blockade along with strike enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance passed off without any major incident.

Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two central leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) with 20 Molotov cocktails in their possession in the city's Gabtali area on Wednesday night.

The arrestees were identified as Jakir Hossain, assistant organising secretary of the central committee of JCD and also president of Jahangirnagar University unit of JCD, and Mrinal Kanti Das, assistant general secretary of the central committee of JCD.

Joint Commissioner of Detective Branch Monirul Islam said on secret information, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo from the counter of 'Rojina' bus service at about 8.00pm.

They also recovered 20 Molotov cocktails from their possession.

Mr Monirul Islam said at a press briefing that the arrestees confessed to have kept the bombs there for carrying out sabotage in the area.

The duo also admitted that they had padlocked different department doors at the Dhaka University a few days back during the strike enforced by the JCD.

Meantime, police detained a youth in front of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's office on Thursday with a slogan 'Want Sheikh Hasina's Resignation' inscribed on his bare chest and another 'Want Emancipation of Democracy' on his back.

The law enforcers arrested Delwar Hossain Noor hailing from Boktapur village, Gazipur as he was chanting various anti-government slogans in front of Khaleda's office at around 2:40pm.

He was later taken to the Gulshan Police Station.

Delwar told reporters that he came to the BNP chief's office from his village home to register his protest against the arrest warrant issued against Khaleda Zia and the arrest of BNP senior leaders.

Meanwhile, surveillance by plainclothes police of the BNP chief's office was slightly beefed up on Thursday following the issuance of a warrant by a lower court on Wednesday for Khaleda's arrest in two graft cases.

They are strongly monitoring the overall situation in the area watching who are entering and coming out of the office.

On the other hand, a man was killed in a crude bomb blast in the city's Chandgaon area on Wednesday night.

The victim was identified as Mohammad Ridwan, 50, of the area.

Locals whisked him off to the CMCH where he succumbed to his injuries at 9:45pm.
