Two persons were diagnosed positive with coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours (Monday), as Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) tested 140 samples on the day.

Both the new COVID-19 cases are male. One of them is 57 years old, who has returned from Saudi Arabia. He has also diabetes.

The other person, aged 55 years, does not have any travel history. Process of collecting detailed information about his infection is going on. He has two comorbidities - diabetes and hypertension.

Both were in home quarantine. Now both of them are admitted to hospital.

A total of 1,602 samples were tested so far by IEDCR and other institutes.

IEDCR Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora disclosed these at a virtual press briefing on Tuesday. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director (MIS) Professor Dr Habibur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, six more COVID-19 cases, earlier detected positive, were released from the hospitals on the day, taking the total number of such people to 25.

Dr Flora said of these six persons, two are women and four are men. One of the men is more than 70 years old, four are aged between 30 to 40 years, and another one is over 40 years.

She said no case of COVID-19 infection was detected after death of some suspected coronavirus infected people, as IEDCR collected samples before their burial.

She also called upon all not to get afraid by suspecting COVID-19 as the cause of death, if anyone dies.

Dr Rahman said corona testing facility has been expanded to seven laboratories in Dhaka and three outside Dhaka.

By April 05, another three labs in Dhaka and five outside Dhaka will be able to test corona. By April 20, four more labs in Dhaka and six outside Dhaka will be able to test corona, taking the total number of such labs to 28.

He also told that they have collected 99,000 PCR kits, and more will be brought.

From now on, civil surgeon offices across the country will collect patients' samples upon consultation with IEDCR, he added.
