FE Report
Two alleged criminals were killed by their rivals at Mirpur in the city early Friday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Amirul Islam (25) and Shahid (20). Both of them used to reside at Bhashantek slum in the capital.
An officer of Kafrul police station told the FE that associates of a notorious gang of the locality, Ibrahim Group, picked them up from their residence at about 3:00am and took them to Balurmath area where the victims were shot dead.
The police officer said the deceased persons were close aides of Jabbar Group, another local gang. "Amirul and Shahid were wanted in several criminal cases by police," he said.
Officer-in-Charge of the police station Delwar Ahmed said they have been killed following a conflict between the groups over establishing supremacy in the area. "Drives are on to arrest the culprits."
Shakhina Begum, who lives at the Balurmath slum, told reporters that she heard the gunshots in the early hours but did not dare to come out of her house. "We came to know of the deaths after police arrived."
Manowara Begum, mother of Amirul, told the reporters, local criminals took him away at gunpoint. RAB and police were called to find them out but could not be traced for a long period.
Shahid's mother Fatema Begum said her son was also taken away in similar style from a cultural programme at Bhashantek.
The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
