ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa produced in an Assam Court Saturday amid slogans of 'ULFA-Zindabad' asserted that he had not surrendered and he would never do so, said a report received in Dhaka from the state capital Guwahati, reports UNB.
"Surrender nai kora, nokoru" (I have not surrendered and I will not surrender) was Rajkhowa's brief statement before he was taken to the Kamrup chief judicial magistrate's court.
Deputy commander-in-chief of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) Raju Barua and Rajkhowa's bodyguard Raja Bora were also produced in the court.
The trio, along with their family members, were brought to the court in a bus under stringent security escorted by senior police officials in a convoy.
As the ULFA leaders were being taken into the court, a group of people in the crowd shouted 'ULFA zindabad' (long live ULFA).
Security personnel whisked them into the court and the court gates were closed, said the eyewitness report.
An earlier report from Guwahati said a 10-member ULFA group including Rajkhowa's wife Kaberi Kachari (42), his two sons Gadadhar (5) and Kamsena (13), Raju Baruah's wife Nirala Neog (30) and his minor son Hemanta, Sashadhar Chowdhury's wife Runima Choudhury (41), his 10-month-old daughter Hema and Raja Bora, PSO of Rajkhowa was held by BSF on Bangladesh-Meghalaya border Friday morning.
"The group was seen loitering suspiciously near the Dawki border early in the morning. When they were challenged, they surrendered and revealed their identities. They were handed over to the Assam Police and taken to Guwahati," BSF spokesman Ravi Gandhi said.
In Dhaka, many people tend to believe that the ULFA group was pushed back through the border by law enforcing agencies of Bangladesh.
Another report said ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh Barua who was reported hiding along India-Mayanmar border and opposed to peace talks with Indian government said Saturday he had full confidence in chairman Arabindo Rajkhowa and the outfit was ready for a dialogue provided "sovereignty" for Assam was discussed.
