The country's telecom regulator on Thursday launched unlimited mobile data packages for users of various operators who have daily, monthly and yearly limits.
The Bangladesh Teleco-mmunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) launched two new internet packages -- yearly and monthly -- to ensure uninterrupted internet usage.
Posts, Telecommuni-cations and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the packages at the BTRC auditorium in the city.
A subscriber will be able to avail up to 1-2 GB of internet a day depending on the packages. As a result of the daily data limitation, the new monthly package will not be useful for heavy internet users.
The BTRC, however, pledged to increase the limit in the coming days.
The yearly package, which is a completely new addition to the BTRC internet services, will have validity for 365 days.
With this, the BTRC's total internet packages - including regular, CCSP and RND packages - now stands at 97.
According to the recent BTRC rules, a mobile network operator can offer only 95 packages. These two packages are free from the conditions - applied to these 95 packages.
In March, the telecommunication regulator formulated a fresh guideline that said mobile internet subscribers would no longer lose the unused data that currently expires due to a package's time limit.
The users will receive their unused data, if they renew the same package before it expires.
However, these two new packages are not be privileged with carry forward facility. The BTRC high-ups and top officials of mobile operators were present at the launching ceremony.
