The US government has lifted Bangladesh from its watch list recently following improvement of human right situation in Bangladesh under the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.
"The US government lifted Bangladesh from its watch list on November 3 which is a great achievement of the present government," said Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Akramul Qader when he paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in Dhaka Tuesday.
During the meeting, Qader apprised Sheikh Hasina that the United States included Bangladesh in its watch list due to violation of human rights, oppression on the minority communities, women's repression as well as patronising militancy by the previous BNP-Jamaat led Alliance government.
The Bangladesh ambassador also apprised the Prime Minister about different matters and activities of Bangladesh Embassy in the United States.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed newsmen after the meeting.
