UZ polls officials among six shot dead in Rangamati

Unidentified gunmen shot dead at least six people, including polls officials, after the end of voting in the second phase of Upazila Parishad elections in Rangamati, report agencies.
At least 11 others were injured when the gunmen carried out the attack in the Noi Mile area on Baghaichari-Dighinala road on Monday evening, Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahee Officer or UNO Nadim Sarwar said.
They were taking election materials to the Upazila Sadar from a polling station when the attack was carried out, Baghaichhari Police Station OC Manjurul Alam.
An assistant presiding officer and four VDP members, engaged in the election duty during the second phase of upazila parishad elections, were killed and 10 people injured in the gun attack on their vehicle.
The deceased were identified as M Amir Hossain, assistant presiding officer of a polling centre at Kanglak and a teacher of Kishaloy Govt Primary School, and VDP members M Al Amin, Bilkis, Sohel and Mihir Kanti Dutta, said Superintendent of Police M Alamgir Kabir.
