LONDON, Dec 7(AFP): WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested by British police Tuesday on a Swedish warrant for suspected rape, as the net finally closed on the website amid anger at its release of US secrets.
The elusive 39-year-old Australian J arrived at a London court Tuesday, hours after British police arrested him. A court official said the extradition hearing was due to start at 1400 GMT and confirmed that Assange had arrived. Outside court, his London-based lawyer Mark Stephens said that Assange was "fine" after he surrendered to Scotland Yard's extradition unit at a police station in the capital on Tuesday.
