BNP (Saifur-Hafiz faction) Acting Secretary General Hafizuddin Ahmed said Friday neither any development will take place in the country, nor its law and order improve if the heads of law enforcers assist the corrupt persons, reports UNB.
"Three of the four former home ministers during the tenure of the last two governments are now in jail on charge of harbouring corruption, although the charges against them are yet to be proved," he told the newsmen at his Banani residence at noon.
The BNP leader said the work of keeping unity in the party is being continued, as the party members started deviating from the ideals of late president Ziaur Rahman.
"Acting Chairperson Saifur Rahman, and also myself, talked with the senior party leaders and the executive committee members about unity in the party."
He added: "I'm the acting secretary general. I will quit the post when after her release, Khaleda Zia and party leaders and members want me to do so… we'll also accept if she wants to bring any change in the party."
Hafiz said BNP has taken strong initiative to free the detained chairperson. "We will free her through legal process."
About BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Hannan Shah's arrest, he said the law would take its own course. "But I must say, he should get justice."
