Xi Jingping wants to 'strengthen' ties with Russia

MOSCOW, Mar 21 (AFP): Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday said he wanted to "strengthen coordination and cooperation with Russia", speaking during a summit with Vladimir Putin.

"I propose strengthening our coordination and cooperation," Xi said during the meeting in the Kremlin on a second day of talks with the Russian leader.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday told Chinese leader Xi Jinping after a round of talks in the Kremlin that Moscow could meet Beijing's "growing demand" for energy resources.

"Russian business is able to meet China's growing demand for energy carriers," Putin said in remarks broadcast by Russian state TV.

Another report adds: The Chinese leader on Tuesday during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin described Beijing and Moscow as "great neighbouring powers" and "strategic partners," saying China would "prioritise" ties with Russia.

Xi said Chinese Premier Li Qiang would "continue to prioritise the all-round strategic partnership between China and Russia," adding that: "we are great neighbouring powers and comprehensive strategic partners."
