The Christian community will celebrate Christmas Day in the country today (Tuesday) marking the birth of Jesus Christ, reports UNB.
According to the beliefs of Christians, God entered the world of human through his son, Jesus Christ, on this day. Besides, it is also a celebration of rebirth, new beginnings, forgiveness and peace, just ahead of a New Year.
Christians use this auspicious occasion to renew their relationships with God and with their fellow humans.
Christmas begins with carols in the evening in public spaces like lobby, restaurants and lounges from Monday evening to Christmas Day.
Special prayers will be arranged at all churches of the country today. The day is a public holiday.
The churches and its adjoining compounds will be decorated with colourful lights and illuminated Xmas trees will be placed with a star standing right on top.
Besides, Santa Claus will distribute Christmas gifts among children, family gatherings will take place and a Christmas Day feast will be arranged.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed have greeted the people of the Christian community on the occasion.
Iajuddin, in his message, said the ideal of Jesus Christ is imbued with human welfare and the glory of sacrifice and these ideals have inspired people to go to the path of truth, welfare and peace.
Fakhruddin said the teaching and ideals of Jesus Christ can show a bright path of peace in the today's unstable world.
Political parties including Awami League and BNP greeted the Christian community on the occasion.
Awami League acting President Zillur Rahman, BNP acting chairman Saifur Rahman and BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain and former JSD leader ASM Abdur Rab in separate messages said Jesus Christ brought to the world the message of peace and welfare.
They expressed the hope that peace and happiness will be established across the globe including Bangladesh following the ideals of Christ.
Hotel Sheraton, Hotel Sonargaon and Westin Hotel will arrange Christmas Children party, Christmas Carnival, Christmas Tree, Christmas lunch and dinner on the day.
