Acting Awami League president Zillur Rahman Friday said a united movement with AL and BNP could be launched if there is similarity in principle between the two parties, reports UNB.
"But united movement could not be possible if there is no similarity in ideology and principle," he told reporters at Sudha Sadan responding to a query about BNP leader Brig Gen (retd) Hannan Shah's remarks about united movement by BNP and AL.
Zillur went to Sudha Sadan to exchange pleasantries with Sheikh Hasina's husband nuclear scientist Dr M Wazed Mia on the occasion of Hasina's 61st birthday.
AL leaders, workers, supporters and admirers observed the birthday of Sheikh Hasina in a low profile as their leader is now detained in an "extortion" case. She was arrested from her Sudha Sadan residence on July 16.
Awami League held milad mahfil and doa at its Dhanmondi office seeking divine blessings for Hasina.
Before the milad mahfil, AL acting president Zillur Rahman while addressing the party members demanded release of Sheikh Hasina before Eid-ul-Fitr. He also demanded withdrawal of the state of emergency as soon as possible.
About the new list of 80 graft suspects including politicians, Zillur said he knows many of them on the list as honest. "After investigation it would be proved whether they are honest or corrupt."
