The newly-formed, state-owned Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Ltd (CPGCBL) will ink deal with joint venture of foreign companies involving Japan, Germany and Australia today (Wednesday) to implement a 1,200 megawatts (MW) coal-fired power plant project at a cost of US$ 4.0 billion at Matarbari on Moheshkhali island in the Bay of Bengal.
Two coal-based power plants having electricity generation capacity of 600 MW each will be commissioned by 2021 at a cost of around US$ 3.0 billion, under the project, a senior official of Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR) told the FE Tuesday.
Another $1.0 billion will be spent to set up a seaport, having berthing facility for large ships with a capacity of 80,000 tonnes, a high-voltage 400 kilovolt (KV) power transmission line from Maheshkhali to Anwara, and construction of road and two bridges from Chakaria up to the project site, said the official.
Some 1,500 acres of land have been acquired at Matarbari under Moheshkhali of Cox's Bazar for implementing the project.
Ultra Super Critical Technology will be used at the Matarbari coal-fired power plant, which will have work efficiency of 41.99 per cent.
