12 BD workers shot in Libya

Some 12 Bangladeshis were shot by a group of unidentified gunmen in Libya, one of them critically.

The gunmen snatched money and expensive belongings from the Bangladeshi workers while firing shots on them Friday, said a press release issued by the Bangladesh embassy in Tripoli.

It said a group of armed robbers attacked a residential camp at Ajdabiya city which is 1,000 kilometres off Tripoli.

They took away seven mobile phone sets and 16,000 Libyan dinars from the Bangladeshi nationals while firing shots at the camp where about 100 Bangladeshis live.

The wounded workers were taken to the Ajdabiya hospital. One of them was transferred to intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital considering his serious injury.

The wounded Bangladeshis have been identified as Humayun Jamir Ali, Harunur Rashid, Fazlur Rahman Ferdous, Awal Liakot Ali, Farid Ramjan Ali from Tangail district, Anwar Siddiqur Rahman from Comilla, Saeed Wajed Ali from Barisal, Sharif Mia from Gazipur, Mostafa Kamal Afazuddin from Narsingdi, Gofran Uddin Azgor from Chandpur, Farid Giasuddin from Jamalpur and Abul Bashar Mokbul Hossain from Brahmanbaria.

The embassy is keeping communication with the injured Bangladeshi workers and also a case was filed against the gunmen, said the press release.    

Nearly 2,000 Bangladeshis are working at Ajdabiya. Of them, 200 are engaged in cleaning jobs.
