Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Wednesday hiked the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Tk 4.25 per kg to Tk 104.26 from the previous rate of Tk 100.01 per kg.
As per new price, a 12kg LPG cylinder will now cost a household Tk 1,251 instead of previous Tk 1,200, an increase by Tk 51.
The new prices of the petroleum gas are applicable for the month of November, with the new value being effective from 6:0pm on Wednesday last.
The BERC fixed the price of LPG for the first time on April 12, 2021. Since then, the price has been adjusted every month.
"5.5-45kg LPG containers will be rationally sold as per the new rates," said BERC Chairman Abdul Jalil, while announcing the new price through a virtual press briefing.
The price of gas for motor vehicles has been increased to Tk 58.28 per litre from the previous price of Tk 54.33 per litre, an increase by Tk 3.95 per litre.
Prices of the government LPG have been kept unchanged, according to the BERC.
Propane and butane, the main ingredients for making LPG, are imported from different countries. Saudi Arabian company Aramco publishes the prices of the two components of LPG every month. This is known as Saudi Cargo Price (CP). The state entity BERC adjusts the price of LPG on the base price of CP.
