The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has cut the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Tk 1 to Tk 1,455 for a 12kg LPG cylinder for the month of November.
The price for the 12-kg LPG cylinder was Tk 1,456 and Tk 1,421 for October and September respectively.
The new price came into effect on Tuesday evening, said BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed at a press conference at its office at Karwan Bazar in the city on Tuesday.
The BERC adjusted the cooking fuel price for the domestic market based on the Saudi Aramco's contract price (CP). It also factored in fluctuations of foreign exchange rates and changes in value-added tax (VAT).
For November, Saudi Aramco's CP for propane and butane is US$635 and $630 per tonne respectively.
The BERC calculated an average price of $631.75 per tonne by considering a propane and butane mixture at a ratio of 35:65. The commission has been setting LPG prices for private operators within the first week of every month since April 2021.
The private sector can sell LPG in various cylinder sizes -- 5.5kg, 12.5kg, 15kg, 16kg, 18kg, 20kg, 22kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg and 45kg -- to consumers at proportionally lower prices in November, according to the BERC statement.
