The final report of the Economic Census 2013 will be published in June 2015, officials of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) said Sunday.
This was disclosed at a workshop titled 'Analysis of primary Economic Census report 2013 and expectation from its final report,' organised by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic, Statistics and Informatics Division (SID) and the Ministry of Planning.
Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Mashiur Rahman was present as chief guest while FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed as special guest at the programme at the BBS conference room.
Dr Mashiur Rahman said, "The census of the BBS will help give a correct guideline to the country's economic structural change and economic motion."
"It will find important sectors of the country and the growth of non-agricultural sector in the last 10 years which will help plan investment and employment generation."
He said, "We find out that the number of economically active household increased vastly as per the primary report of the Economic Census 2013. Around 72.04 per cent economic units out of the total are situated in rural areas."
During the Economic Census 2013, the total economic units were found to be 8.07 million while it was 3.70 million in 2001 and 2003 and 2.16 million in 1986.
The growth rate of economic unit was 71 per cent between 1986 to 2001 and 2003 while the growth rate was 118 per cent between 2013 to 2001 and 2003.
The progress rate of business and industrialisation in Dhaka division was 31 per cent 1986 and it was 32 per cent in 2001 and 2003. In the last three decades, the progress of all divisions was equal and the trend is upward.
The number of permanent institutions was 1.56 million in 1986 while it increased to 2.99 million in 2001 and 2003. And it reached 4.53 million.
The number of economically active households was 3.03 million in 2013 while it was 381,055 in 2001 and 2003.
