FE Report
The families of 180 Bangladeshi job-seekers, cheated and confined by fraudulent manpower recruiters in Iraq, sought necessary initiatives from the authorities concerned Friday for their immediate rescue.
They made the plea at a press conference at Jessore Press Club. The press meet was organised by Rights Jessore, a non-government organisation.
They said some of the victims' families have already appealed to different authorities concerned, including Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad, to rescue the victims. The job-seekers were recruited by Carrier Overseas Consultant United in Dhaka. Jabed Ahmed, brother of one of the victims, said his brother along with 180 workers went to Iraq last May with a job at Abu Torab Housing Company Limited in Najaf.
Unfortunately, after their joining the company, the owner started torturing the Bangladeshi expatriates and confined them. They are being regularly humiliated by the recruiting agency as well as the employer.
The company is exploiting them by not providing salary. Their mobile SIM cards have been seized, so that they cannot communicate with their relatives and family members, he also has said.
Binoy Krishna Mallick, executive director of Rights Jessore, and Fakir Shawkat, ex president of Jessore Press Club, among others, were present at the conference.
