The first day of 48-hour countrywide hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami to protest rejection of Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's death penalty review plea in the Appellate Division, passed off on Tuesday without any major incident.
Jamaat and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) on Monday called the 2-day shutdown for Tuesday and Wednesday. The shutdown began at 6:00am on Tuesday and will continue till 6:00am on Thursday.
A passenger bus was torched by miscreants in Lengar Bazar area of Nomuza Sarak in Bogra at around 4 pm. Nobody was injured in the arson attack, said officer-in-charge of Bogra Sadar Police Station Abul Bashar.

ICS district unit alleged the vandalism in a press statement, saying members of the law-enforcing agencies vandalized the house at 11pm on Monday, as they did not get Dr. Rahman at home to arrest.
In Chittagong, activists of Jamaat and ICS brought out processions and vandalized several vehicles in GEC crossing, Andarkilla and Chakbazar areas.
